Staying Active! (Active Status and Milestone Opportunities)

What is 'Active Status'?

While it is not required to obtain 'Active Status' to remain in the program and receive mentoring, we highly encourage all mentees to consider maintaining active status. The elements included in maintaining active status are there to encourage you to use these campus resources and to further your success while at UC Merced and as you prepare to graduate. There are also incentives, which we are calling 'Milestone Opportunites', that we have included for maintaining 'Active Status' (see below).

Maintaining Program Active Status: 

In order to remain in active status as a Mentee, plan to complete the below each semester. Make sure to complete based on your current year standing.

Qualifying workshops:

  • 3 per semester for all Mentees 

Advising: 

  • 1st Year Bobcats: 2 Bobcat Advising appointments minimum (book early!)
  • 2nd+ Year Bobcats: 2 advising appointments minimum (can be from any advising service)

Service/Volunteer Events:

  • 2nd+ Year Bobcats: take part in at least 1 service opportunity 
  • Optional for 1st Year Bobcats

Peer Mentoring One-on-One Meetings:

  • 1st Year Bobcats: Meet with your Peer Mentor a minimum of every other week (or twice per month). 
  • 2nd+ Year Bobcats: Meet with your Peer Mentor a minimum of once per month. 

Socials with Peers:

  • 1st Year Bobcats: minimum of 2 SMP social events per semester
  • 2nd+ Year Bobcats: minimum of 1 SMP social event per semester

 

Milestone Opportunities: 

2 Active Semesters: Certificate of First-Year Completion 

4 Active Semesters: Letter of recommendation 

6+ Active Semesters: Graduation Stole
